Having discovered his music through the Sonic Fiction label earlier this year, I immediately contacted Seltay to follow up on a request to have him on Kongkast. His rolling Drum & Bass infused with this signature sounds influenced by a diverse sonic palette, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Reggae, Lovers rock, Motown, and Hip hop. It really shows what talent is currently being brewed in the Sonic Fiction Camp.

DJ Seltay (Julian) is a Birmingham (UK)-born artist shaped by a rich Caribbean heritage and a deep-rooted connection to music as cultural expression. Raised on a diverse sonic palette, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Reggae, Lovers rock, Motown, and Hip hop. His journey began playing the drums, developing a natural sense of rhythm that would later define his sound. His sound is fluid yet distinctive, often described as tribal and jungle-infused, balancing playful, jazzy, and liquid textures with deeper, more intense rhythms.
Since relocating to Sydney in the mid-2000s, DJ Seltay has built a reputation performing alongside both local and international acts, while contributing to the evolving DNB scene. Seltay has played at a large range of music festivals including a regular feature at The Reggae Carnival, Peats Ridge, The Subsonic launch party in Sydney, and an extensive amount of promoter parties such as Foreign Dub, 50/50, Sonic Fiction ( to which Seltay is signed up to as a producer), Momentum/ Airborne, Real Fluid, Banana Bomb Records. Seltay has played along side internationals including DJ Marky, Micky Finn, Kenny Ken and Ill Truth. Seltay has also DJed on Bondi Radio, as well as featured on My Soul Radio hosted by Madcap UK numerous times.
At just 14, he experienced the raw energy of the early jungle and DnB underground, sparking a lifelong obsession. By 16, he was on the decks, and by 18, performing across clubs and festivals in Birmingham and Cornwall UK, fully immersed in rave culture. His progression into production in his early 20s led to formal training in electronic music, cementing his craft.
With over three decades in the culture, his work reflects both heritage and innovation, constantly pushing boundaries while staying true to the roots of drum & bass.
